Massive Attack - Paradise Circus

I can't stop playing this song !

The clear surrealist influences of the video, combined with the slow pace of the song, creates an extremely eerie and sinister mood.. and the colour schemes nice too!

A lovely day out dear ...

I did a photoshoot in the summer with lovely photographer millie burgess, of some childrenswear I did last year.

Its based on my trip to New York; I took inspiration from the shape of the dress because of all the 20s/30s influences there and I took some photographs of Brooklyn that showed a sense of nostalgic street-wear.

The shoot was inspired by the idea of a picnic, with references to early twentieth century upper class leisure. I wanted to create a sense of nostalgia, much like that of New York, whilst playing on the idea of English Heritage and rules of etiquette.

I created the all of the designs myself, including doing all the dying, screen printing and digi printing.

Thankyou to all that helped, especially the gorgeous models!

Yang Fudongs 'First Spring' for Prada

'First Spring' is a short film that Chinese art star Yang Fudong created for Prada last year, to represent Prada's 'new direction' in visual communication.

The name 'first spring' is inspired by the Chinese adage "the whole years work will depend on a good start in the spring.'

It is set in 30s/40's Shanghai, and follows a series of young men around as they travel through a dream-like World meeting various characters.

It intertwines traditional Chinese culture with western culture, referencing the expanding luxury market both digitally and in China.

Inspired by the promise and opportunities of the decade, it brings together individuals from disparate classes and creates an unexpected hypnotic narrative, (with clear surrealist art references) and a bleak overtone contrasted with the beautiful models.

Amazing!

Anna Pavlova's dying swan

I've been looking into the Ballet Russes and came across Anna Pavlova - thought to be one of the finest ballet dancers in history.

She is shown here in her swan costume, where she famously created the role of the dying swan.

The costume is beautiful, and I feel sad I was unable to see her perform...

Oh how sinister ...

I absolutely love the Edward Gorey illustrations and books, and bought a large collection of them the other day.

The fabulously dark and sinister childrens books are a refreshingly brilliant insight into the playful realms of illustration, that are believed to be where Tim Burton got inspirations from ...
